When life feels overwhelming, hectic and stressful it seems like there are fewer hours in the day.
Time just seems to slip away.
What you need to do then is save more time for the things that are actually important to you.
I’m not talking about time management for productivity, but time management for sanity.
Save more time to create and live the life that you want and spend less time on the things that don’t really matter.
Take a Time Inventory
Where is your time going? Take an honest look.
Check your screen time.
There is nothing wrong with consuming media to keep yourself entertained or informed.
However, if you feel like you don’t have enough time this is one of the first places to consider.
Or maybe it’s something entirely different – you just need to learn what your time wasters are.
Take Time to Prep
Sometimes you have to spend time in order to gain time in the future – like an investment.
This may seem counter-intuitive at first, but hear me out.
Taking a chunk of time to prepare ahead can save you so much time in the future.
When you decide once, you can reduce your decision fatigue.
How?
– Plan your meals, or better yet prep them in advance
– Order your groceries to be delivered later
– Plan your workouts, as specifically as you can
– Decide all of your outfits the night before
– Do your laundry weekly instead of waiting
– Tidy for 10 minutes daily to avoid a huge mess
– Set up routines for yourself
Batch Tasks
Batching is where you group similar tasks together.
Basically, if you’re going out to run an errand might as well take care of all the errands.
If you’re sitting down to do something on your computer take time to complete everything you need to do on your computer.
Only have 15 minutes? Set a timer and get whatever you can completed.
You can batch your tasks in a number of ways..
– Location
– Category
– Duration
– Time of day
– Energy
Rescue Time
Slept in til noon?
That doesn’t mean the rest of your day can’t be meaningful.
A half wasted day is always better than a whole wasted day.
Oftentimes you can trick yourself into thinking that you’ve already wasted so much time that you might as well call it a day and start again tomorrow.
But you can start right now where you are.
Use Gap Time
Gap time is time where you’re not doing much.
I’m talking about: waiting in lines, waiting on hold, driving to or from work, waiting for food to finish cooking, etc.
Use that time to listen to an audio book, read an actual book, tune in to a podcast, send someone a kind message or do some crunches.
Use that rescued time to do something important to you.
Write It Down
By “it” I mean everything. Write everything down.
It’s been proven that you are more likely to remember the things that you physically write out (not type out!)
Writing out a list of the things that you really need and want to get done daily will make it more likely that you actually get to those things.
That sounds obvious, but how often do you really do it?
Wake Up Earlier
I saved this for last because I know no one wants to hear it..
Sleep is essential to your health and also just amazing.
But waking up early feels almost like a super power.
When you wake up early you can get so much done before others are even awake.
Getting enough rest is important, but so is living your life to the fullest.
When you save more time in the morning it’s like having extra time in your day.
What you use your “extra” time for is entirely up to you.
Spend in quietly preparing for your day, pampering your skin, fitting in some last minute studying or working on your passion project.
The goal is to save more time, but what you choose to do with the time that you’ve saved is entirely up to you.
You may want to use that time to relax, that time to grind or spend that time on others.
