The most important relationship of your life is the one you have with yourself. That’s why these solo date ideas are also essential.

If you can’t be happy alone, no one else is going to be able to make you truly happy.

Even if you have a romantic partner or significant other, spending some time with just yourself is very important.

Going it alone doesn’t have to mean being lonely.

Taking just yourself on a date can take some confidence. It can also help foster self sufficiency and independence.

But where do you take yourself?

Glad you asked because I have a lot of ideas for you, both big and small.

Visit a Cafe

Going to sit at a cafe alone can be a good way to increase your confidence when it comes to going on a solo date.

Plenty of people go to cafes and sit by themselves to do work, or just spend time.

If you’re feeling self-conscious you can always bring along your laptop or a book to read.

Enjoy the expensive coffee and maybe a nice pastry.

Alternatively, you can spend your time people watching, which is often surprisingly interesting.

Take a Fitness Class

Taking a fitness class can be done virtually, or in person.

But I’m mostly talking about going in person.

A fitness class is great because even though you go to it solo, you have plenty of other people with you.

Getting your body moving will release endorphins and help you let go of stress.

Plus, there are so many different styles of classes you can take: from dance to kickboxing to yoga.

You’re bound to find one class that you enjoy.

Get Creative

Express yourself.

Tap into your innate creativity in whichever way feels right for you.

Being creative can be drawing and painting, but it’s not limited to only that.

Open your mind and there are endless possibilities when it comes to this solo date idea.

Break up your routine and do something different – just have fun!

Spa Day

If you have the funds to splurge, a day at the spa can be a luxurious way to relax and pamper yourself.

If you can, consider getting a massage as well to lessen any tension you might be carrying.

Or maybe you’d rather get the full manicure, pedicure treatment.

Show yourself some love in whichever way feels right.

DIY Spa Day

If you would rather save your money for other things, you can always set up a little do-it-yourself spa day at home.

It can be just as relaxing, but for significantly less.

Create a calming atmosphere by diffusing essential oils, or burning scented candles.

Pull out your best products and take the time to pamper yourself in the comfort of your own home.

Do a Solo Photoshoot

Practice both your photography skills and your poses.

Taking photos of yourself can be done with a fancy camera, or just with your smartphone.

You can utilize a camera timer, app or try a bluetooth shutter.

Experiment with lighting and props. Learn your best angles, but make it fun.

It doesn’t need to be something serious.

This should be an exercise that empowers you, not something you critique yourself too harshly over.

Let yourself feel confident. There is no need for you to share these pictures if you don’t want to.

Take Yourself Shopping

If you can afford it, why not treat yourself?

If you go shopping solo you can focus on finding things that you truly enjoy.

You won’t have to worry about being influenced by anyone else.

Visit a Park

Getting out into nature can be so beneficial to your wellbeing.

Nature often has a calming effect on our minds.

It’s up to you if going to the park means sitting and reading in the shade of a tree, or you want to take a strenuous up hill hike.

Both have their benefits and are nice solo dates to take yourself on.

Nature Walk

A nature walk is simply taking a walk where you appreciate nature.

It doesn’t specifically have to be in a park.

You want to stop and smell the roses, so to speak.

Pause and appreciate the beauty of nature, take time to connect with the natural world.

Like I talk about in my post How to Boost Creativity, walking in nature can stimulate new ways of thinking.

This can be a great way for you to both stay active and unwind.

Bike Ride

Taking a bike ride is a nice low impact activity that can be really fun in the right weather.

It’s a nice way to explore because it’s a lot quicker than walking.

If you enjoyed riding a bike as a kid this is probably a good solo date idea for you.

If this just sounded like a way to trick you into exercising, it’s probably not the right idea for you.

That being said, bike riding does help improve your cardiovascular fitness and strengthen your muscles.

Cook

We often spend a lot more time and effort making things for others.

When was the last time you cooked a delicious meal – just for yourself?

You are absolutely worth the effort.

Try a new recipe, or make one of your favorites.

Cook a full meal or make a sweet dessert.

You don’t need to share it, just make it for you.

Have a Night In

Ok I know that out of all of the solo date ideas this one seems not-so-much like an actual date.

Especially if staying in by yourself is something that you already do.

But you make it a solo date.

Put on some sexy clothes – or some cozy pajamas.

Burn some candles, diffuse some oils or turn on twinkle lights.

Treat yourself to delicious food. Settle in with a cup of tea, or maybe a cup of wine. Crack open a good book.

The point is to really focus on quality spending time with yourself.

Movies

Taking yourself to the movies can be another good way to ease into doing things solo.

Sometimes you might feel like when you’re alone everyone is looking at you.

I guarantee you they are not.

However, no one is watching anything but the screen in a dark movie theater.

No one will notice or care that you are alone.

Alternatively, for my true introverts, make solo at home movie night a big deal.

Buy some candy and pop some good popcorn for the occasion.

Give yourself a little ambiance light and snuggle into your coziest blankets.

DIY off Pinterest

I have to be honest with you.

I have attempted many DIYs from Pinterest and my versions rarely end up looking quite the same way as the creators.. But it’s not about the end product.

It’s about the process and experience instead. Because perfection truly isn’t achievable by hand, you’ll also be creating something truly unique.

You’ll also likely save money compared to buying it premade.

Get to Water

Studies have shown that natural bodies of water can help improve mental health and reduce anxiety.

They are also great places to observe and appreciate nature.

Getting to the water could mean a lot of things such as a lake, river, bay or shore.

There are also so many different activities that you can do on and in the water like: swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, boating, fishing and floating.

Buy yourself flowers

Don’t wait for someone else to buy you a bouquet, just buy one for yourself to celebrate yourself.

You don’t need to have an occasion for it.

Pick out whatever arrangement speaks to you and bring a little nature into your home.

You don’t need to spend a lot of money on it even.

While it’s more of a solo date activity than a solo date idea, you can make it something more.

Turn the trip into an opportunity to dive into the language of flowers – it’s actually pretty interesting to learn what different flowers in different colors mean.

Visit a farmer’s market

Take yourself on a casual date to up-level your groceries by purchasing local fresh produce.

Not only will you be getting higher quality, but you will also likely save money on what you buy.

Plus farmer’s markets can often be interesting places to explore.

They often have other things to discover, like plants or even fresh honey.

Watch the sunrise or the sunset

Both sunrises and sunsets are magical events that happen every day.

Yet we miss so many of them. When is the last time you actually enjoyed and appreciated one?

It can be a great way to start or to end the day.

Experiencing the beauty of nature like this can help you with keeping a positive mindset.

At home dance party

One of the most convenient solo date ideas is to dance when no one is watching.

I mean, forget dancing like no one is watching.

It’s an at home solo dance parry just for you. Have fun expressing yourself and moving to the music.

Learn a dance, or just make it up as you go.

Visit a book store

Book stores can be unique spaces, especially the smaller local ones.

Of course they also offer a wide variety of reading materials and other knick knacks.

Visit your local library

Even better than bookstores, you can go to the library where things are free.

Libraries are great sources of knowledge.

They are also usually pretty peaceful environments where you can sit and study.

Libraries also tend to be community hubs, so you may discover other local activities while you’re there.

Libraries themselves might also host a book club, or some movie screenings.

Get into a Book Series

Some of these should be called solo date ideas for introverts, but hear me out.

Reading is something everyone should be doing.

While you might stick to non-fiction books, there’s something magic about fiction stories.

When it comes to a really great series you become emotionally invested in the characters.

(Harry Potter anyone?)

It’s also just a great way to pass time doing something you enjoy.

Some of my personal favorites besides Harry Potter include The Lunar Chronicles (7 primary books) Flavia De Luce Series (10 books) and Book of the Ancestor (3 primary books).

Take yourself out to dinner

When you’re used to eating out with others, taking yourself out to eat can feel kind of intimidating.

But it’s a great way to appreciate your own company.

Taking yourself out to eat is a good way to really appreciate the dining experience without distractions.

You can focus on the flavors instead of on conversation.

Those are 23 great solo date ideas to help you connect with yourself and give you a chance to know yourself better.

I tried to offer ideas that were for introverts, extroverts and everyone in between.

Which one are you going to take yourself on?
