Sometimes life can leave us feeling drained – physically, emotionally and mentally. We all have days where we feel like we just don’t have anything more to give. That’s why you need to know how to reset your energy.

Remember that it’s important to give yourself grace and care for yourself during these times. If you’re feeling burned out and drained, beating yourself up isn’t going to help.

Put Yourself First

Putting yourself first is an essential, but often overlooked, aspect of resetting your energy. You may have tons of responsibilities making this more difficult, but you have got to remember that your needs are important too.

Neglecting self-care can lead to burnout, making it even harder to meet those responsibilities.

Spend some time taking a break and reconnecting with yourself. Sip on your favorite beverage, buy yourself some nice flowers, or go for a walk in the park.

One of my favorite ways to hit ‘pause’ is through reading. Reading, especially fiction, allows you to immerse yourself in a different world. It provides an ideal mix of both relaxation and stimulation.

Putting yourself first is a way of giving yourself permission to enjoy your life. Do whatever you feel like is going to help brighten your mood and recharge your battery even a little bit.

Integrating small acts of self-care into your daily life can significantly influence your approach when it comes to how to reset your energy.

Sleep Well

One of the most effective methods on how to reset your energy is ensuring you get enough quality sleep each night. Sleep is so important for your body throughout your entire life.

Sometimes it can be difficult to find the time to get in those 7-9 hours, but when you’re feeling drained you need to make an effort to prioritize it.

While you’re sleeping, your body is working on the recovery and repair of your body. It also uses this time to regulate your metabolism and store your memories. Studies have shown that not getting enough sleep can increase your risk for different heart diseases, infections and obesity.

When you wake up from a good night’s sleep you should be better able to focus and regulate your emotions. You will also, of course, have more energy. When you prioritize sleeping well, you empower your body to more effectively reset your energy.

Eat Healthy

Another key strategy in how to reset your energy is to simply eat well. We all know that eating healthy and nutritious foods are good for our physical health, but they’re actually good for your mental health as well.

here is a reason that experts often refer to your gut (or to be more exact, gastrointestinal tract) as a second brain.

Eating the right foods can enhance your mental clarity, mood, and energy levels. Typically, healthy foods are considered “whole foods” with minimal processing. You also want to seek foods high in vitamins, minerals, and/or antioxidants to support all of your internal systems.

The food that you eat becomes the fuel that your body runs on. Some of the foods we eat even actually lower our energy levels. The excessive sugar that gives you that quick boost is also responsible for the hard crash later.

You also want to be sure that you’re drinking enough water. Even mild dehydration can lead to feelings of fatigue.

The truth is that most of us don’t really pay attention to how we feel after we eat. We are too focused on enjoying the meal while we’re eating it. There’s nothing wrong with that of course, but it’s also important to reflect on how the things you are putting into your body are impacting it.

The goal is to discover foods that make you feel good both when you’re eating them and after you’ve eaten them.

Move Your Body

Moving your body doesn’t have to look like high intensity training, or lifting heavy weights. It can! But, it can also look like stretching, doing yoga, or taking a walk.

If you’re not someone who gets enough movement in their daily life, you want to help ease yourself into a more active lifestyle without getting overwhelmed. At the start it can be easy to believe that physical activity only drains your energy levels. (It honestly does seem that way in the beginning.) However, the long-term benefits extend far beyond any temporary fatigue.

Exercise doesn’t have to be about looking a certain way, it plays a big role in our energy levels. Getting enough regular movement can also help to strengthen your circulatory system, boost your metabolism and reduce your stress levels.

Besides the physical benefits, getting enough movement has also been shown to improve your memory, concentration, and overall brain performance.

Unplug From Online

It’s all too common to start the day immediately reaching for our devices, and immersing ourselves in the whirlwind of social media, emails, and news. Before we can worry about ourselves, we are thrust us into the midst of other people’s lives and problems.

It’s great that we can be so connected across the globe, but sometimes it can just be too much – draining our energy away.

In today’s digital age, learning how to reset your energy often requires a real effort to disconnect from the online world and reconnect with your inner self.

Disconnecting is not about rejecting technology, but instead about setting healthy boundaries and creating space to be in the present moment.

Center Yourself

We can lose our balance and our way during stressful times. Centering is about returning to a state of calm and focus. Centering yourself is a fundamental technique when it comes to how to reset your energy.

As you become better at centering yourself, you’ll find that you are better able to manage stress and quiet external noise.

There are a few different techniques you can use to find your inner equilibrium and center yourself. The easiest place to start is to just focus on your breath. Breathing is something we do without any thought, but it can be beneficial to give it your attention.

Take deep, slow breaths. Inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth, or breathe in whatever way feels the best to you. Concentrate on the rhythm on your breathing and allow it to ground you in the present moment.

Creative expression is another powerful way you can center yourself. What creative acts you do is entirely up to you. It could be drawing, writing, cooking, gardening, dancing or one of a thousand other activities.

The point is to fully immerse yourself in your creative expression, or to reach a state of “flow”. When you’re in a state of flow, time tends to move differently, you’re fully absorbed in your task and it feels almost effortless. You might also have heard this state referred to as being “in the zone”. Once you achieve this, you’ll find it can be restorative to your mental energy, as well as promoting a sense of fulfillment.

Connect With Nature

Reset your energy naturally by connecting with nature. The calm beauty of nature can act as a counterbalance to the hustle and stress of daily life. Just 10-15 minutes spent in a “green space” can lower your stress levels and enhance your creativity.

Natural sunlight plays a big role in regulating our circadian rhythms which can in turn affect our overall energy levels. There are studies that show a correlation between time spent in nature and lower stress levels.

So take a walk outside, stand barefoot in the grass or even just bask in the sunshine for a few moments. Make a conscious effort to embrace the healing power of nature whenever you can.

Practice Gratitude

Gratitude isn’t about ignoring challenges or difficulties, it’s about finding balance. It’s such a simple thing to write out a few things you are grateful for, but don’t underestimate gratitude as a tool for resetting your energy.

When you focus on all of the abundance you have, you notice even more abundance. On the other side when you focus on all that you lack, that’s what you’ll notice more of.

We all have so many things to be grateful for in our lives. However, when you’re feeling so drained it can be a lot more difficult for you to think of those little things you have to be happy about. But through practicing gratitude consistently, you’ll find it easier to tap into your positive energy.

Manage Stress

Stress can accumulate quickly, draining your energy and negatively impacting your quality of life. While you won’t ever be able to get rid of stress entirely, you can learn how to manage it.

Stress isn’t inherently bad. It has helped keep us alive historically. Stress also can be caused by just about anything, it doesn’t just have to be negative experiences: while having a wedding can be a happy event, the process of planning one can cause stress.

But, stress can still have serious long-term consequences for both your physical and mental health. Chronic stress increases your risk of developing chronic diseases and can put serious strain on your relationships.

Those are all good ideas, but what’s important to remember is the best technique is the one that works. What works to relieve someone else’s stress might only cause more for you. That’s why you have to develop healthy coping techniques for yourself.

Find Joy

When is the last time you had a really good laugh? A full belly laugh? Since you’re reading this post on how to reset your energy, I’m going to guess that it’s been too long.

Seeking out laughter and joy can help provide a much needed reset to your energy. Laughter is truly one of the most enjoyable medicines. When you laugh, your brain releases endorphins, relaxes your muscles and lowers your heart rate – which can help reduce some of the physical symptoms of stress.

Incorporating joy into your daily life isn’t about only doing pleasurable activities though. It’s about adopting a mindset the seeks joy in all it’s forms. Joy can invigorate your spirit and truly recharge your energy.

Remember that self-compassion is crucial during this time as you work to find balance and reset your energy. That’s why step one is to put yourself first!

If you’re currently feeling drained, burned out and exhausted, learning how to reset your energy can be incredibly beneficial for your overall well-being.

Of course, it’s normal to have moments where you feel these ways. The key is not to dwell on these feelings, but to take proactive steps towards resetting your energy.

I hope these tips helped, let me know which one was the most beneficial in a comment at the bottom!
