If you’re not familiar with this title, Untamed is a raw and empowering memoir about a woman becoming who she truly was all along, under her taming.
There’s a lot more to it, but I suggest that if you’re interested you should just pick it up!
I read Untamed by Glennon Doyle earlier this year, and it really stuck with me.
So here are 10 of my favorite quotes from Untamed.
Being human is not hard because you’re doing it wrong.
It’s hard because you’re doing it right.
We’re all fighting our own unique battles in life.
No one has a manual on how to do it right or even one definition of what right is.
That’s why you can’t expect yourself to either.
We all struggle at some point, it’s a part of being human.
The truest most beautiful life never promises to be an easy one.
The next line in the Untamed is “We need to let go of the lie that it’s supposed to be.”
Life isn’t always easy but it doesn’t mean that it’s not good.
What is real and true is rarely easily obtainable.
The braver I am, the luckier I get.
It’s brave to go after what you want in life, to put yourself first and choose the unknown over what you’re already used to.
Luck comes to those who step out of their comfort zone and work hard.
This life is mine alone, So I stopped asking people for directions to places they’ve never been.
We are all trying to navigate life the best that we can, but none of us have a map.
Life is a great experiment and no one knows your life better than you.
No one else has ever walked in your shoes.
Trust in yourself.
It’s nearly impossible to blaze one’s own path while following in someone else’s footsteps.
If you really want to grow, you have to forge your own path.
Instead of following someone else’s footsteps, make your own unique trail.
Follow your heart’s dream.
Every time you are given a choice between disappointing someone else and disappointing yourself, your duty is to disappoint that someone else.
It’s easy to think that others will judge us for our decisions, but so what?
Others will judge you no matter what.
Know that you job is to not let yourself down.
Everything starts with you so be there for yourself first.
We forgot how to know when we learned how to please.
All of us, though women particularly, learned to look outside ourselves instead of inside for approval.
It’s ok to put yourself first and go against the opinions of everyone else.
Don’t shrink yourself, you’re the one who has to live her life.
Grief is a cocoon from which we emerge new.
Grief changes you.
It can shatter you, and even though you can pick yourself up and put yourself back together.. the pieces never fit quite the same way that they did before.
You are someone a little different, someone new.
These last two are quotes from Untamed
are specifically for women.
When a woman finally learns that pleasing the world is impossible, she becomes free to learn how to please herself.
In case you didn’t know: you can’t make everyone happy.
No matter how hard you try, someone somewhere will always disapprove, or think that you should have done things differently.
So you might as well make yourself happy with your decisions in life.
Every time you pretend to be less than you are, you steal permission from other women to exist fully.
The previous line or quote from Untamed is “Playing dumb, weak and silly is a disservice to yourself.”
You should not be shrinking yourself as a person to make someone else feel larger.
Don’t put on a mask or an act.
Own your intelligence, strength and humor!
When you do that, you make other women feel like they can too.
How did you feel about these quotes from Untamed and have you read it?
I had never heard of the author, Glennon Doyle, but Untamed debuted at number one on the New York Times best-seller list for non-fiction and I was intrigued.
Though I didn’t come in with many expectations, I was not disappointed.
In fact I was very pleased, which is why I gathered all these quotes from Untamed to share.
I hope you enjoyed them, let me know if you pick up the book yourself!
