The weather has warmed and it’s time for new growth.
Self care is essential in all seasons, but spring self care will likely look different than your self care in winter.
1. Start Fresh
No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow.
Each day is always a new opportunity to start fresh, but particularly each day in spring.
Let the changing of the seasons be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for to start something new.
2. Set New Goals
Take some time to review the goals that you’ve already made.
Maybe you’re making progress or maybe your priorities have changed.
Either way, you can restructure or set entirely new goals.
3. New Vision Board
If your goals changed, your vision probably did too.
Maybe you created a vision board at the beginning of the year, maybe not.
It’s never too late to create one though.
It could be physical or made more quickly on a Pinterest board.
4. Read New Books
Create a new book list for spring, or just pick one book with a spring feel.
There are new books coming out all of the time in different genres.
You can read books specifically about self care, or just pick up a fiction book to escape into for a little while.
Or maybe just take some time to read outside while the weather is nice.
5. New Playlist
Create new playlists for the season or for your unique moods.
Discover new music that makes you feel good.
If you don’t have time for that, search out pre-made playlists for spring self care.
6. Try Meditation
Just sit still.
Meditation is a practice so don’t expect yourself to be a pro at it immediately.
Just showing up and sitting quietly with yourself is a great start.
Meditation can be an effective method of stress and anxiety management.
7. Spring Clean
Of course we all know spring is associated with cleaning out the old in order to welcome the new.
It’s time to put away all the heavy blankets and thick coats.
Move your furniture and clean those spaces that get neglected, open your windows and let some fresh air in!
8. Spring Declutter
A little different from spring cleaning, spring decluttering is about letting go of the things you don’t need.
Less clutter, the less you have to clean.
I think we all want that, right?
Plus, if you kick out the clutter and you might kick out some of your stress with it.
9. Digital Clean
When you’re cleaning up your house and your physical spaces, don’t neglect your digital ones.
Clear off your desktop, empty your downloads folder, unsubscribe from those spam emails and unfollow people on social media that don’t make you happy.
10. Admin Day
An admin day is a day where you try to knock out a lot of those things you’ve been putting off.
Things like – making appointments, doing regular maintenance, setting up accounts, updating your resume, changing your passwords… etc.
This might not sound like typical spring self care, but you’re doing your future self a huge favor.
11. Get Outside
Spring is the season to open up your windows and let the breeze in.
The mild temperatures are great for getting into the outdoors as well.
The days are longer, the sun is warmer, flowers are blooming and birds are often singing.
A great time to drink in fresh air and soak up the sun.
12. Visit a Park
Parks come in all shapes and sizes, you may be lucky enough to live closer to one than you think.
A quick local search will let you know.
Being out in nature has certain healing effects and you never know what kind of beauty you’ll discover.
13. Picnic
All you really need for a picnic is a blanket and some snacks.
If you go to a park you can sit on a bench instead.
If having a full-blown picnic isn’t really your thing just try having brunch sitting outside at a restaurant or cafe.
14. Nature Walk
A walk or hike outside in nature gives you a double boost.
Not only are you getting your body moving but walking while outside in nature can both calm and inspire you.
15. Garden
Start a garden or tend to the one that you already have.
Early spring is a good time to plant seeds if you didn’t plant any in fall.
There’s nothing quite like seeing the tiny seeds you planted sprout and grow.
A successful garden can also last many years, not just one season.
16. Nourish
Nourish yourself with life. I don’t just mean with good food either.
You can nourish yourself in other ways too. You nourish your body with food, but you also need to nourish your mind and your spirit.
Make sure that you’re getting enough sleep, movement and joy in your life.
17. Eat Fresh Fruits
Eating seasonally will help ensure you’re eating fresh.
Fresh fruit usually tastes better and in-season fruit is typically less expensive too!
Spring fruits include strawberries, kiwis, honeydew and pineapple.
You can even buy fresh and freeze it yourself at the peak of ripeness and use them for delicious fruit smoothies later.
18. Eat Salads
There are so many different kinds of salads out there – even if you don’t consider yourself a “salad person”.
Eating salads can be a great habit to get into.
The basis of most salads are raw leafy greens – a great source of fiber and nutrients.
Once you have your base, there are so many different things you can add to make it unique and tasty.
19. Appreciate the Rain
You know the saying, spring showers bring flowers.
Not every day can be clear sunshiney weather, but rainy days aren’t bad ones.
Have a plan of rainy day activities you can do. Get cozy indoors or grab your umbrella and go out into it!
20. Get Creative
Be creative in whatever way you like. Creativity can really motivate you.
When I think of spring self care and creativity, I personally think of painting with water colors – if you haven’t tried it I do recommend you give it a shot!
But it doesn’t have to be water colors. Pick your favorite medium, or try something new.
21. Buy yourself flowers
Nourish your self love by buying yourself a flower bouquet.
A small gift like this to yourself can really brighten your day.
I say flowers because it’s spring but it’s really more about giving something you enjoy to yourself than what the gift is.
22. Rest
Make sure you’re getting 7-9 hours of sleep each night.
Listen to your body, if you’re tired take it easy.
23. Act Like a Kid
Do things outside that you may have enjoyed doing as a kid.
You can blow bubbles, fly a kite, ride a bike, collect cool rocks, create sidewalk chalk drawings or anything else you can think of.
