There are so many posts about productivity, but I don’t think there’s enough being said about healthy productivity.

Maybe you haven’t heard those two words paired together before: healthy productivity.

Is there such a thing? I believe so, yes.

The most important thing is balance – you don’t want to burn yourself out.
 

Be Realistic


It is important to understand that you can’t be at optimal efficiency all of the time – so don’t expect yourself to be.

you are are not a robot or a machine.

There are a finite amount of things you can get done in a day.

Put realistic, sustainable expectations on yourself.

You should always give yourself more time than you think you’ll need.

Plan for things to go wrong, for mistakes to happen!

Don’t plan for things to go 100% right because they rarely do.

It’s important not to go overboard and think about how long things might potentially take.

Every single blog post I create takes longer than I think it will.

Well, we’re aiming progress and not perfection here.

 
 

Single-Task


 
That means don’t multi-task.

Your brain simply cannot focus on two things at once.

All you’re doing is putting extra strain on yourself by switching between tasks and losing a bit of energy and efficiency every time you do.

 


 

Juggling too many things will inevitably lead to you dropping something.

Avoid that risk altogether – focus on doing one thing and do that one thing well.

Then move onto the the next task.
 
 

Reduce Distractions

Shorten your list.

Try cutting it down to the top 3 most important priorities for the day.

If your phone is your biggest distraction, turn it off or put it in another room.

 


 
If sounds are what’s distracting you, try noise-blocking headphones.

Keep a list for if (when) your mind wanders – add anything distracting thoughts to this list for you to think about later.

Then get back to work.

 
 

Organize Your Time

Time is a finite resource, you want to use it wisely.

There is always more money to be made, but you get what time you get.

Carve out time where you can.

Maybe that means waking up earlier to have more hours in the day.

It’s important to create a system that works for you.

Everyone is different.

 


 

Maybe it’s Task Batching – or it’s Time Blocking.

Do some experimenting and figure out what works best for you and your life.

 
 

Track Your Progress

Break that one big thing into 5 smaller things.

Focus on one step at a time.

Having a visual reminder of our progression can be a very powerful tool.

Consistency is key, small things add up.



 

Remember to have a growth mindset.

While you may not be good at something now, that doesn’t mean that you can’t learn and improve.

Recharge Yourself

I saved the most important part of healthy productivity for last : take care of yourself.

Get enough sleep, keep yourself healthy.

I’m talking about both physical and mental health here.

Don’t neglect either for the sake of being productive.

Rest is an essential ingredient to productivity.

You want to avoid burning out, there is nothing healthy or productive about it.

 


 

When you prioritize getting your rest, you’re also prioritizing your good work.

A rested body and mind is always more focused and creative.

Productivity is not how much you get done, but what you get done and how well you do it.

It is not just being busy.

 


 
Healthy or unhealthy – please remember that productivity is not everything.

If you are judging yourself based solely on your productivity you are making a huge mistake.

Remember the key to healthy productivity is balance!

Success is what you define it to be.
